The new 109,000-ton 2,600-passenger Star Princess was built in 2002. Her 18 decks are cleverly designed to provide a great number of small, individualized spaces, each with a distinct personality and experience. But a coordinated color palette of turquoise, sea green, terra cotta and cream provides visual continuity throughout the ship making you feel at home. The Star has 12 lounges and bars such as the Explorers Lounge or the clubby Wheelhouse Bar traditionally decorated with dark, rich paneling, leather sofas, wing back chairs and P&O memorabilia. The spa, the largest one in the Princess fleet, draws on Asian influences for its decor and treatments. The Hearts and Minds Wedding Chapel on Deck 7 offers a unique "wedding cam" where friends and family at home can watch the shipboard ceremony on the Princess website. Across the way is the 25-station AOL Internet Café. Internet access is 50 cents per minute. The Children's and Teens' Center is larger than on any other Princess ship. The Star benefits from a new learning program created in partnership with the California Science Center, giving young cruisers the opportunity to stargaze, build and race sailboats or study coral reef habitats. From the many dining options to the array of entertainment in three main lounges, Princess continues to emphasize "Personal Choice." Passengers can choose between the traditional assigned table at one of two seatings, or the restaurant-style "Anytime Dining." The Horizon Court, with 24-hour dining, is usually filled with passengers who wanted a more casual meal, either from a buffet or from the regular dining room menu.
The Star Princess has 1,301 staterooms. Eighty percent of the 935 outside staterooms have private balconies. All staterooms have twin beds convertible into queen size, along with a TV, music system, refrigerator, private safe and telephone with voice mail. The various suite categories have added extras such as walk-in closets, bathtubs and some whirlpool tubs.
Not Recommended For those wanting individualized service and a high attention to detail - in other words Luxury.
