North/South Bound Cruise Tours
There are three ways in which an Alaska cruisetour is offered.
The two major ways, referred to as Northbound or Southbound cruisetours, are
based on the 7 day one way itinerary of Holland America, Celebrity, Princess,
Royal Caribbean and Carnival ships. These itineraries range from 9 to 18
days in length including the 7 days on the cruise. They are available either
before the cruise travelling from Alaska to Vancouver, the southbound direction,
or after the cruise from Seward or Whittier, the northbound direction. All
cruisetours generally offer a wide variety of optional activites in Alaska
such as fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, white water rafting
etc. A trip to Denali National Park is generally included as are the cities
of Anchorage and perhaps Fairbanks, depending on the length of the cruisetour
chosen. Flights into Nome and Kotzebue are also offerd as part of these cruisetours.

Inside Passage CruiseTours
The third way is based on the Inside Passage Cruise, hence IP Cruisetour, and is offered exclusively by Holland America Cruise Line. In the northbound direction the cruise portion of the tour terminates after 3 days in Skagway. From here the tour generally operates via the Whitepass Yukon Railroad into Whitehorse in the Yukon and via deluxe motorcoach from there into more of the Yukon and Alaska. The flight home is then from one of the cities in Alaska, either Anchorage or Fairbanks. In the south direction the itinerary can be repeated in reverse or have a flight into Skagway. In Skagway the four day cruise portion is picked up for the trip to Vancouver. The advantage of the south bound trip in this scenario is that the cruise sails via Glacier Bay National Park. It is therefore important to discuss the itinerary with an Alaska cruise expert so that those sights important to you for your Alaska vacation are duly considered.Alaska Vacations
